An industrial boiler is a heater that boils water as a means of central heating. Boilers are usually powered
by oil or natural gas. Boiler burners require regular maintenance to keep them operating optimally, and
regular cleaning is important to prevent fuel deposits from building up, which can clog the burners and
affect heating efficiency. Cleaning your boiler burner requires some diligence and some basic tools.
illustrate
1. If the boiler is on, turn it off and allow it to cool completely
2. If the boiler is gas or oil powered, close the fuel valve. The valve is usually located on the outside of the
boiler.
3. Place a piece of cardboard outside the boiler to collect ashes generated during the cleaning process.
4. Wipe the outside of the boiler with a damp cloth to remove any loose dirt or dust that has accumulated
on the outside since the last cleaning.
5. Open the service panel on the front of the boiler. You should be able to remove it, but some models
may require you to use a screwdriver to loosen the screws before you can remove it.
6. Use the brush attachment on the end of the shop vacuum hose to suck out any loose dirt inside the boiler.
7. Scrub the interior chamber with a chimney brush to remove more sediment, then use a shop vacuum
to remove it.
8. Wipe the burner (usually the long, thin tube near the bottom of the boiler) with a damp rag, then wipe with
a chimney brush to remove debris. Allow the boiler to dry completely before using it again.
